G Herbo “Statement”: Plans to Build Community Center In Chicago
Friday morning, Chicago’s G Herbo, released the single, “Statement”, which addressed a recent $1.5 million federal fraud allegation. After pleading not guilty and posting a $75,000 bond, G Herbo went straight to the studio to clear the air. He states:
Real No Limit so we don't play by the rules
How the f*ck I catch a case? We bought a school
Don't be fooled, you n*ggas fools
On the 'Gram readin' comments I'm like, "Ooh, cool, so they want me to lose"
Not only does he deny any involvement with the alleged illegal activity, but he also wants everyone to not be distracted from his communal efforts. The song points out the hypocrisy of the public and Hip Hop fans alike. We often call for positivity and action but give little attention towards it; however, when negative media is shared, it becomes the topic of conversation immediately. The entire city of Chicago was enraged when former mayor, Rahm Emanuel, closed 50 schools in 2013. Many of the schools closed have never recovered. For this reason, it is vital to appreciate the efforts of G Herbo and others in trying to rebuild the community a school or mental health initiative at a time. In September 2020, G Herbo announced he had bought Overton Elementary, a school he spent time in as a child, with plans to turn it into a community center. We will stay tuned until the project is completed.
