Famous Dex Taking Steps Towards Recovery
Chicago’s, Famous Dex, has been battling drug addiction for years; however, after the worries of many fans and colleagues such as NLE Choppa and John Gabbana, Dex has decided it is time to tackle his substance abuse issues within a rehabilitation facility. NLE Choppa stated:
Hip Hop is a genre that heavily promotes drug usage from Percocet and Lean to other forms of abuse. We often do not consider the effect this promotion has on not only the Black community, but also considering Hip Hop is the most popular genre of this generation, it is clear the music can influence drug usage amongst a variety of listeners.
From the loss of his mother and friends throughout Chicago and success, one can only imagine the personal issues that Dex has been dealing with over the course of his stardom. Rich the Kid, the CEO of Rich Forever, the label Famous Dex rose with, was very helpful in helping Dex make the journey to rehab. A hero is one that saves people, but saving yourself comes first. As a community we must commend when our rappers are vulnerable enough to share their journey through addiction. Let’s encourage not only rappers but also those we know personally to seek help when they’re ready.
