Meek Mill and Michael Rubin Help Pass Reform Laws in Michigan
Since Meek Mill was released from prison in April 2018, he has done work throughout many communities to erase the ills of the Prison Industrial Complex through prison reform. It was his own struggles with the legal system that gave him the passion to help others dealing with similar issues. In 2008, Meek Mill was sentenced to 11 to 23 months in prison for drug and gun possession followed by an eight year probation. After a petty violation of his probation, he was sent to prison. With the help of friends, family, colleagues, fans and legal advocates, he was able to leave prison and embark on a mission to prevent others from suffering under the law.
Recently, with the help of partner Michael Rubin of the Reform Alliance, he was able to help with the passing of new laws impacting probation and parole policies in Michigan. In previous years Meek Mill has helped families impacted by the criminal justice system throughout Philadelphia with scholarships, toy and clothing drives and other efforts. It is the reform in other states, outside of his hometown, that truly shows the dedication to prison reform on a grand scale. The laws passed will reduce adult felony probation sentences, prevent extensions to probation terms and cater probation supervision to individual needs and or cases. Meek Mill is not only a hero of his own community, but a hero within prison reform throughout the country.
